DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

PYT seeks a mission-driven and responsive Director of Business Operations to help lead the organization through the next phase, back into live performances following the COVID-19 shut down. Our greatest strength through this time has been our ability to pivot to virtual performance opportunities, and we hold a great value for a leader who can appreciate that change and evolution are imperative for the long term health of an organization.

Reporting to the Executive Artistic Director, the Director of Business Operations will be based at the organization’s offices in Mountain View, CA, and have overall management responsibility for growing an impactful organization with a $1 million+ annual budget, 6 regular and 60+ seasonal employees.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This full-time exempt position is for immediate hire, with an ideal start data in early July 2021. This impactful leadership position is responsible for overseeing the administration, fund development, and human resources of the organization. This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about leading hands-on operations, fostering growth, and working as part of a team committed to the performing arts

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operation & Strategy

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations
  • Perform general management duties ensuring the successful operations of the organization
  • Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-making
  • Contribute to the strategic plan and drive its implementation
  • Assure that the organization makes consistent and timely progress in achieving its mission and target programmatic impact
  • Provide leadership in developing organizational, and financial plans and execute on the policies authorized by the Board

Board of Directors

  • Attend all Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organizational progress
  • Communicate effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Oversee and report on the organization’s results for Board of Directors
  • Drive development and fundraising leveraging the Board as needed

Revenue Management

  • Actively engage in complex fiscal management through hands on budgetary development and oversight; routinely report performance and financial activities to the Board
  • Collaborate with the Executive Artistic Director to ensure appropriate funding and support for PYT programs
  • Plan, actively manage, and oversee the organization’s human resources, fundraising, and operations while ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability

Community Engagement

  • Effectively represent the organization and promote a positive organizational image to ensure adequate community representation

Human Resources

  • Manage the human resources functions of the company, ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations, overseeing processes such as hiring, separation, ongoing staff development, performance management, and compensation and benefits
  • Supervise non-program staff and contractors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this role enjoys collaboration and working in a team environment.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Prior executive experience as a successful leader of a related nonprofit organization and/or organization
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree
  • A proven track record of growing organizational capacity and programmatic impact
  • A strong passion for the performing arts, but not necessarily professional experience in the performing arts
  • Proven abilities and experience in fiscal management
  • Success working with individual, foundation and corporate donors and securing funding from the same
  • Experience in creating and establishing clear, measurable business goals
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to work well with media, staff, and the community

COMPENSATION:

$65,000 – $73,000 per year plus Kaiser medical benefits for employee and matching contributions to a Simple IRA retirement plan.

STAGE DIRECTORS – Stories on Stage

PYT seeks directors for their “Stories on Stage” program. “Stories on Stage” feature adaptations of favorite stories performed by actors ages 12 and up in the SecondStage at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. “Stories on Stage” directors help source props and costumes for these productions, and use black cubes and other set pieces to define the performance area. Experienced professionals preferred, but in keeping with PYT’s educational mission early career directors will be given all due consideration.
