PYT’s School for the Performing Arts is where young performers come to learn the tricks of the trade that will help them stand out from the crowd. Whether you’re looking to work on your audition skills and technique, perform in a play, explore the world of improvisation, learn magic skills, or want to sing and dance to your heart’s content, we’ve got the class for you!

Classes are open for kids ages 5-12 and begin the week of September 14th. There are no classes the week of November 9th and November 23rd. All classes perform the week of December 7th

Class Schedule and Details

Mondays: September 14th – December 7th (no class on 11/9 and 11/23)

  • Musical Theatre FUNdamentals (taught by Jen Tipton)
    Ages 9-12
    3:30 – 4:30pm

    In our Musical Theatre Focused session of Theatre FUNdamentals, aspiring musical theatre performers will work with their teacher to develop voice and dance skills while putting together a showcase of 3-4 musical theatre songs. Throughout the class, students will be challenged to communicate character, emotion, and storytelling within their vocals and choreography. Students will also have the opportunity to assist in choreographing for the showcase. On the final day of class, students will perform their musical theatre showcase for family and friends.

  • Studio Players (taught by Jen Tipton)
    Ages 9-12
    4:45 – 5:45pm

    Aspiring performers will hone their performance skills, with a focus on creating strong and unique characters. Students will be challenged to express their character(s) through clear physicality, animated facial expressions, and varied vocal inflection. They will work together with their director to prepare a play that will perform on the final day of class.

Tuesdays: September 15th – December 8th (no class on 11/10 and 11/24)

  • Broadway Dreamers (Musical Theatre) (taught by Jen Tipton)
    Ages 6-8
    3:30 – 4:30pm

    Young performers will learn to sell Broadway songs through voice, movement, and character, and have a lot of fun doing it! Performers will learn some basic musical theatre dance terminology and steps to continue developing their performance skills. Students will also be introduced to some basic vocal techniques. On the final day of class, they will perform their songs for family and friends.

  • Pint Size Players (taught by Annabel Gardnier)
    Ages 6-8

    Young performers will get to experience all of the things that go into putting on a real show! Students will work with their instructor to audition for and rehearse a short script. They’ll work on creating character through body and voice, and working in an ensemble as they prepare for their final performance on the last day of class.

Wednesdays: September 16th – December 9th (no class on 11/11 and 11/25)

  • Audition Prep (taught by Jen Tipton)
    Ages 8-12
    3:30 – 4:30pm

    Whether you’re new to performing or have auditioned numerous times, this class will help you put together an audition that will let you shine! We’ll help you pick a monologue and song that makes the most of the limited time at an audition. Actors will work to develop clear characterization in both their monologue and song using physicality, facial expressions, and vocal inflection. On the final day of class, students will present their prepared material in a mock audition for a panel of local directors and vocal directors who will provide specific feedback.

  • Audition Choreo (taught by Jen Tipton)
    Ages 8-12
    4:45 – 5:45pm

    Each week, students will learn an audition dance from a different musical and focus on a helpful skill such as learning steps quickly, being super expressive while dancing, or how to fake it til you make it! Students will also learn some basic musical theatre dance skills that are likely to show up in audition combinations and learn what choreographers are looking for at auditions. On the final day of class, we’ll have a mock audition with some local choreographers who will provide feedback on each individual performance (Ages 8-12)

Thursdays: September 17th – December 10th (no class on 11/12 and 11/26)

  • Theatre FUNdamentals (Acting and Improvisation Focused) (taught by Stefan Fisher)
    Ages 9-12
    3:30 – 4:30pm

    In our Acting and Improvisation-focused session of Theatre FUNdamentals, aspiring actors will work with their teacher to continue to develop their acting and improvisation skills while putting together a showcase of short scenes and improv games. Throughout the class, students will be challenged to communicate character, emotion, and storytelling through scripted and improvised scenes. On the final day of class, students will perform their scene showcase for family and friends.

  • Magic to Do! (taught by Stefan Fisher) – BRAND NEW CLASS!
    Ages 9-12
    4:45 – 5:45pm

    In this BRAND NEW class, students will learn the basics of magic! Aspiring magicians will learn magic skills using cards, coins, rope and other every day objects to help their imaginations soar. They’ll work with their instructor to learn the basics of magic based performance and prepare for a magical showcase performance on the last day of class. (Ages 9-12)

Fridays: September 18th – December 11th (no class on 11/13 and 11/27)

  • Broadway Beginners (taught by Annabel Gardiner)
    Ages 5-6
    3:45 – 4:30pm

    Budding performers will learn to sing and dance as they perform a fun and energetic musical theatre song! Students will learn how to isolate body movement and express character and emotion through physicality. On the final day of class, they will perform their song for family and friends (Ages 5-6)

  • Munchkin Players
    Ages 5-6
    4:45 – 5:30pm

    Budding performers will let their imaginations fly in this class! Using pantomime, sounds, and games to practice relaxing in front of a group, students will work as a team to practice a short script. Students will learn the basics of performance techniques as well as some simple theatre terminology. (Ages 5-6)

Transfers and Cancellations

Up to one week prior to your class start date, refunds can be provided for cancellations minus a $50 fee. No refunds are provided within a week of the class start date. Transfer requests up to one week before your class start date will be charged a $25 transfer fee. Any transfers requested after the start of class are will be charged a $50 fee. No transfers are available after the first full week of classes. All transfers are subject to availability.
