About the Story

Our play,”The Ugly Duckling,” is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen. You can read the original story online .

 

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author who is best remembered for his fairy tales. According to the Hans Christian Andersen Centre, he wrote 212 fairy tales in his lifetime.

* The Snow Queen
* Thumbelina
* The Little Match Girl
* The Red Shoes
* The Emperor’s New Clothes

Our play refers to a number of other fairy tales, some of which were written by other authors, including:
* Hansel and Gretel – which was written by the Brothers Grimm
* Little Red Riding Hood – which was written by Charles Perrault
* Goldilocks and the Three Bears – which had a number of origins through the years, including a version by Charles Dickens
