The Golden Goose is a fairy tale that was told by the Brothers Grimm.
Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm (1786-1859) Grimm were German brothers who spent their life collecting folk music and literature, and also studied languages. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, they were among the most important German scholars of their time.

Their collected tales were published as Kinder- und Hausmarchen (Children’s and Household Tales, 1812-15). It included many well known folk tales and stories that we learn today, including Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and, of course, The Golden Goose.
Our adaptation today features a few differences from the original story. For example, in the original story the family has no name other than we know they all call the youngest son “Dummling.” There is a father and a mother and three sons. When we’re adapting a story for the stage, we often make changes for a number of reasons. Can you think why we may have changed some of these things for our production?
