KAREN’S NOTES: Unfortunate Soul Cast run 3/3/2022

GRACIE: When you come out with the Young Performers be plotting and send them on your evil way – really look like you’re up to no good

SYD: Do we need to make the invite in an envelope? Will that fit easier in your pocket? I also don’t mind you just holding it. Like you’ve been waiting to talk to your parents about this very thing and you’ve already drafted it.

CAMDEN: Don’t say your line introducing Belle and Beast until after the trumpet

THOMAS and LEAH: Switch where you’re standing – Thomas be on the downstage side in this scene.

THOMAS: Remember to stay on the stage right side of Leah when Belle loses her temper at Ben. Your motivation is that you are about an inch from losing it, and you’ve walked away a bit to pull it back together.

ROTTEN ENSEMBLE & ISLE ENSEMBLE: You are TOUGH. Tough attitudes, tough posture, tough facial expressions:

REMEMBER EVERYONE: You will not be able to look in the mirror at the theater and I’m covering them up starting tonight! PRACTICE YOUR DANCES and KNOW YOUR STUFF

CAMDEN: What happened to the invitation? You should hand it to Mal in Isle of the Lost

GLORIA: You feel me? Should be threatening. Like, punch your hand into your fist.

SOPHIA: Do not cross downstage until after Mal says “Hello Mother.” Stand in the back for your grand entrance. Cross on “stealing candy Mal?” Grab the candy and toss it.

GLORIA and THOMAS: Work on a cool handshake. Like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-d0m8W1XEk

LUND and EVIE: Review your blocking in this scene. If you need help going over it see me before rehearsal – I’m there early.

SOPHIA: Your intention and acting was great tonight. Make sure you don’t block your face with your staff so I can see it all!

LEAH and ALYSSA: Hold the mirror up when you give it to Evie, and cross more downstage

EVILS and PAGE: When you are traveling by portal, it’s not just a stroll across stage. I need you to improv that something is pulling you across the stage while stuff is twirling around.

AURADON CHOIR: Your clump was a line. Teddy, you’re too far downstage. And remember – we are not doing the harmonies in “Be Our Guest.” Sing it straight. You all really also need to review this dance.

EVILS: You should also be more of a clump and not a straight line during all of this

KAREENA: I’d like Fairy Godmother feel a little older. Is there someone in your life you can model after? If you hold your posture a little stiffer, and keep your feet more planted that will help. Also, I believe the recording of your solo is up – you need to work on that. There is a guide vocal and track available to you.

ANGELINA: See Leah about how to pronounce Grimhilde

JACK: Cross downstage to Audrey when she is talking to you. Right now you’re upstaging her.

ANGELINA: Make Jack come to you when you’re talking about your mother. Don’t let him upstage you.

TEDDY: Sometimes I’m losing the punch line to your lines because you are rushing them way too much. Example: I would be for you – I could not hear what came after that AT ALL

GLORIA: Be careful you don’t stand in front of Teddy during the intro to Doug

SKYE and DANA: You need to speak loudly when you say your lines, and make sure you practice saying them at the right time

LUND: You were in the wrong place for the dance around the Auradonians in “Bad is the New Good”

ANGELINA: “Did anyone see that” is to adults, not to the other students

KRISH: When you are in the class, sit facing out, not facing the board

CHEERLEADERS AND KITTY: Keep acting when Evie and Doug are talking. Be miming what you would be doing in class – Maurice, you’d be continuing to lecture

ALYSSA: Don’t turn back to the class and Maurice until he calls on you

KRISH: Was the note for you to pass to Evie not in props or did you just miss it?

CHEERLEADERS: For “Good is the New Bad” part 2, let’s have you enter upstage of the Evils and cross center when the singing starts, rather than through up center.

EVILS and SYD: The dorm room light does not spill out as much as you are taking to center stage. Be aware that will be tighter. Jack, in the first dorm scene aim for mid platform. Alyssa, stay near the flowers (they’ll look better I promise)

ALYSSA: Remember there is a sound effect when you take out the mirror to use it. Milk that moment a bit – don’t rush it.

LUND: Don’t turn your back on the audience. If you’re finding you have to you’re probably in the wrong place.

EVILS: You are consistently a line entering the museum. It should look more like a clump.

CAITLYN: Stand on the platform when you come into Fairy Godmother’s Remedial Goodness class

EVERYONE: Review your lines and songs and dances every day

KAREENA: I want to see Fairy Godmother getting feisty with the other evil parents – they’ve done battle remember. So especially the “How’s your power on the isle….” right into the “camera” and feisty. Step forward and get really mad on “THEY WERE MICE” And then remind yourself oh wait, I’m nice. I’m nice. Take the high road.

EVIE: Who’s the old bat should be right into the “camera” the audience. And on your last line you need to keep vamping until the light goes out. I suggest “There you are BB look at you!!!! You look so good, and so do I – look we match BB!! But my furs are getting ratty without my Carlos, where is Carlos? I can’t see him!”  The light should cut you off well ahead of time, but have it ready to go.

LUND:When you chase Jay, end up closer to the right side of Fairy Godmother

EVIL PARENTS: Practice the end of “Parent’s Revenge”

EVERYONE for GOAL: Jay says “That changes things” and everyone turns out to face the audience. Don’t. do the moves for “From the North” do it wherever you are and facing wherever.

EVIE: Be excited when Jay and Carlos score – like “oh my gosh! someone good!” Also, there is a whistle there for you. Find it and put it in your tub so it is only for you.

CROWD: Don’t forget to react to the game

GLORIA: Good job passing the ball

KRISH: Volume on your cell phone line, and don’t rush through it.

KAREENA and CAITLYN: You need to be further downstage for your scene at the end.

SKYE and DANA: I couldn’t hear your lines at all on p. 48. Did you say them? If so they need to be much louder.

JACK: On the line “I thought you were good at breaking into things” try to emphasize “Good”

LUND: cross up to stand on the platform when the spell doesn’t work

CAITLYN: I need more volume in the sad cookies scene. When you talk about “my mother loves me she’s just busy” say that out to the audience

JACK: don’t cut Ben off so quickly when he denies the cookies. milk the “no no…it’s okay” a little more

DANA and SKYE: you need to get into the dancing for “DiD I mention” when the music starts, and you do the “Give me an M” – like give a shrug “okay it’s ben we’ll do it!”

EVERYONE: Review what you sing in “Did I Mention”

ANGELINA: Don’t forget to drag Chad downstage for “FINE – Chad’s my boyfriend now”

JACK and SYD: The baskets have literally never been where you put them tonight in this scene.

SYD: Turning to get a cookie is a way to dispel what’s become an awkwardly real moment. Keep that in mind.

SYD: Give a longer pause after Jack leaves after “Space Between” before coming in.

EVIE: Take your time with your Crazy Cruella moment! I’ll tell you if it goes too long, but we’re not even close right now. And you exit up center after.

LUND, ALYSSA, GLORIA: React when Ben says “And I Ain’t gonna thank you for your help” – not mad, impressed

LUND, ALYSSA, GLORIA, SYD: Tougher end poses like this:

KRISH: Good is the new bad 1 when you enter with Audrey – stay a little Stage left of audrey

STUDENTS: Don’t forget what we did with Good is the New Bad and your rave placement! Don’t make me cry on Saturday!

ALYSSA: Be on the other side of Jay behind the couch – be between Jay and Mal

JACK: Fine tuning note – practice “If Only” like your feet are nailed to the floor. Put the energy you are using in your feet right now out into the audience. This song is 100% about that.

SYD: Be confident in “If Only.” Build your energy and send out the emotion into the audience. That’s what will make that song kill. You have the vocals. Believe it.

KRISH: Run your lines

ANGRY MOB: This was much better, but you’re still kind of a slightly annoyed mob more than an angry mob.

EVERYONE IN WAYS TO BE WICKED: Crowd was WAYYY in the wrong place at the end. Way. Review that.

AURADONIANS: Everone who is a cheerleader or student should be on stage when the coronation starts.

ALYSSA and TEDDY: Your scene in the coronation was not in the right place – review where you’re supposed to be

TEDDY: Again, don’t throw away the punch line. You set it up beautifully, but swallowed the “I’d love to go”

SOPHIA: Mirror to earlier comment, make a grand entrance. Don’t walk until after “I’m Back!!!” And feel free to ad lib some “NO” and “GIVE IT BACK” when they are teasing you with the wand. Your exit was fantastic.

KAREENA: Be surprised on “Bippity Boppity How about That?”

EVERYONE: Break this down should be pure joy, excitement and fun. I want to see it!

JACK: I am not hearing you say “Come on Audrey!”
