PRODUCTION WARDROBE SUPERVISOR / STITCHER

Peninsula Youth Theatre (PYT) seeks energetic and focused individuals to join our mission-driven musical production team. The Production Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for ensuring actors are properly costumed during Mainstage musical performances.

Our MainStage musicals offer students ages 5 and up the opportunity to perform in full-scale professionally designed shows. These performances take place at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts in their MainStage theatre. PYT produces three MainStage musicals per year: one in the fall, one in the spring, and one in the summer. Upcoming production dates can be found at https://pytnet.org/upcoming-shows/.

Reporting to the Production Costume Committee Chair and PYT’s Executive Artistic Director, the Production Wardrobe Supervisor works with our volunteer costume team to ensure costume pieces are maintained during each performance, keeps our costume area organized, and assists volunteers with show tasks such as dressing.

COMPENSATION: $20-$24 per hour, dependent on experience

LOCATIONS: Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, Mountain View, CA

POSITION OVERVIEW:

One Production Wardrobe Supervisor will be hired for every MainStage production. Individuals may be hired for a single production or multiple depending on their availability. The Production Wardrobe Supervisor must be available to attend all technical rehearsals and performances for each production. Our 2025-2026 production run dates are:

  • Shrek the Musical: November 3-16, 2025
    • Technical rehearsals: 4-10pm, November 3-7
    • Performances: November 8 at 2pm and 7:30pm, November 9 at 1pm, November 13 at 9:30am, November 14 at 9:30am, November 15 at 2pm and 7:30pm, November 16 at 1pm
  • Newsies: March 9-22, 2026
    • Technical rehearsals: 4-10pm, March 9-13
    • Performances: March 14 at 2pm and 7:30pm, March 15 at 1pm, March 19 at 9:30am, March 20 at 9:30am, March 21 at 2pm and 7:30pm, March 22 at 1pm
  • A Year with Frog and Toad: July 19-26, 2026
    • Technical rehearsals: 4-10pm, July 19-22
    • Performances: July 23 at 6:30pm, July 24 at 6:30pm, July 25 at 1pm and 6:30pm, July 26 at 11am and 3pm

Crew call time for performances is 2 hours prior to curtain.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete quick emergency costume repairs (e.g. sew a snap, use safety pins for temporary fixes, etc.)
  • Iron and mend costumes
  • Attend dress rehearsals during tech week to become familiar with costumes and actors
  • Become familiar with costume pieces for each production to be able to identify and use extra pieces when necessary
  • Be willing and available to support dressers with costume quick changes as needed
  • Become familiar with accessories such as hats and headpieces owned by the costume team in order to help with costume accessory changes
  • Remain attentive to youth cast members and other adult volunteer parents backstage who may need assistance
    • Pay particular attention to our youngest actors (ages 5-7) who may require help with buttons, ties, zippers, etc.
    • Ensure all cast members are properly supervised
  • Maintain a list of costumes pieces that require mending after the production closes
  • Communicate with costume committee chair regarding other responsibilities that emerge as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sewing machine operation and hand sewing skills to repair costumes (e.g. repairing tears, fixing or replacing broken zippers, putting on buttons)
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to pass a background screening
  • Good communication skills with people of all ages
  • Ready to work as part of a team committed to the performing arts
  • Able to remain focused in a noisy backstage environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some experience teaching, leading, interacting with youth programs
  • Working knowledge of the theatre production process

STAGE DIRECTORS – Stories on Stage

PYT seeks directors for their “Stories on Stage” program. “Stories on Stage” feature adaptations of favorite stories performed by actors ages 12 and up in the SecondStage at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. “Stories on Stage” directors help source props and costumes for these productions, and use black cubes and other set pieces to define the performance area. Experienced professionals preferred, but in keeping with PYT’s educational mission early career directors will be given all due consideration.
