Jasper Rabbit loves carrots, especially the ones from Crackenhopper Field. He eats them everywhere he goes. Until the day they start following him... or do they? Based on the beloved book by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Peter Brown, this funny and slightly spooky tale is the perfect fall treat for our youngest community members and their families.

A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court

A modern kid on a castle tour gets accidentally transported to the court of King Arthur, and her cell phone definitely does not have service. Based on Mark Twain’s classic, this fun retelling is full of laughs as our hero navigates courtly manners and medieval sensibilities to find her way back home.

Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter

In this merry rethinking of the classic fairy tale, Rumpelstiltskin and the miller's daughter are wed, and sixteen years later, their daughter faces the same golden dilemma. But this fairy-tale heroine has canny plans of her own. Based on the book by Diane Stanley, Rumpelstiltskin’s Daughter is a story about a girl who finds her own role to play, on her own terms.

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

Lilly loves everything! School, dressing up, and even her stinky baby brother, Julius. But when she cannot wait until sharing time to show off her purple plastic purse and movie star sunglasses, things do not go quite as planned. A charming, funny, and heartfelt story based on the book by Kevin Henkes, perfect for the littlest members of our community.

Alice In Wonderland

Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and join her on her adventures with the Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts! This classic tale has been specially adapted for Stories on Stage, a fitting and magical close to another season of stories shared together.
Auditions
One annual audition fills the Stories on Stage company. Due to small cast sizes and rehearsal schedule, Stories on Stage is a limited-cast program. We cannot guarantee that all who audition will be cast. Most actors are cast in 1–3 productions across the year, depending on casting and calendar conflict dates performers provide up front. Come prepared with a 1 minute monologue, and to play a few theatre games with the rest of the audition group.
Fees & tuition
2026-2027 Season: $350 per production the actor is cast.
What is Stories on Stage?
Stories on Stage is PYT's annual program adapting beloved children's literature into short, accessible stage performances. Each production runs about 45 minutes — long enough to tell a real story, short enough for our youngest audience members to stay engaged.
The annual youth company casts about 20–30 young performers (ages 12–18) through a single audition each September. Due to small cast sizes and rehearsal schedule, Stories on Stage is a limited-cast program. We cannot guarantee that all who audition will be cast. Most actors are cast in 1–3 productions across the year, depending on casting and calendar conflict dates performers provide up front. This gives young actors a real season's worth of experience, while keeping weekly rehearsal commitment manageable. Rehearsals generally run on Tuesday and Sunday evenings, for 4-5 weeks.
Stories on Stage performs at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts' Second Stage. Performances for school audiences take place on one Friday morning per production, and for the public on one Saturday per production.
